8.4 Moderation
If you have chosen to enable comment moderation, you can approve or reject comments that have been left on the discussion forum and noticeboard. A red circle shows the number of comments which currently need to be moderated.
Pre-Moderation Tools
Discussion comments, Noticeboard comments and Resource comments appear in their own sections.
Pending: Comments which have yet to be reviewed, approved or declined. Discussion comments are sorted by question. Click on each question to see the comments that need to be moderated.
Declined: Comments which have been rejected.
Approved: Comments which have been approved and are now live/visible on your consultation topic page.
Click on "View in Context", which opens a pop-up to view the comment in context with other responses to this discussion question.
Active Moderation - Discussion / Noticeboard / Resources Discussions
PlaceSpeak provides the means to moderate comments directly from the comment thread. Simply click on the three dots to the right of the comment in question and select Moderate from the options. You will be provide a window to provide and explanation to the participant, informing them of the reason for the comment removal. It is often good practice to encourage the person to comment again ensure they comply with PlaceSpeak's moderation policy. https://www.placespeak.com/en/terms/# . Please note that public participants can also flag inappropriate comments for further scrutiny by Administrators and Moderators.
Moderation is performed by Administrators and staff of PlaceSpeak; or assigned Moderators. The following principles should be cited when comments are removed through Active Moderation
Be Nice: No abusive, obscene, indecent or offensive language. Contributions should be constructive and polite, not mean-spirited or contributed with the intention of causing trouble;
Respect the Law: Avoid making statements that might break the law. This includes statements that contain libel, condone illegal activity, reveal classified information, or infringing on a copyright or trademark;
Be Factual: Don’t post unproven or unsupported accusations against individuals or organizations;
Show Respect: Do not post comments or material that may be defamatory, abusive, harassing or include hateful remarks on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality, sexuality or other personal characteristics;
Be Relevant: Don’t re-submit the same contribution many times, or contribute off-topic material, including Spam, advertising, or the promotion of irrelevant websites or services;
Be Authentic: Do not impersonate or falsely claim to represent people or organisations. If you are making comments on behalf of a group or organisation, please tell us who you are and who you represent.
Be Concise: Keep your contributions on topic and to the point;
Don’t Post Personal Details: Including such as private addresses, phone numbers or email addresses (yours or someone else’s); and,
No Threats: Do not post material that contain threats or incitements to violence;
